A Frugal Journey Through January Day 29

Welcome back, thank you for joining me. Can you believe it is Day 29, my journey is nearly over!

 

Today I want to share one of the pages inside my Altered Book Journal. One of the reasons I chose to use this as a journal is I love text, whether stamps, paper or in this case scrap pages from the book. I have decided to stick with the theme and have at least some book print showing on every page.

I started with a very thin layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint, applied with a plastic card. I could use a brush but I prefer the uneven, random look and very thin layers I can achieve using the card as a scraper. I then added layers of Broken China and Bundled Sage.

When dry I put a little Barn Door Distress Paint onto an acrylic block, used the lid of the paint applicator to stamp circles and the plastic card to add lines. I also had a stamps of a smaller circle both open and solid, so I added the open circle in Barn Door and the solid one in Broken China. I liked the colour combination much more than I expected to, especially when I added some Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges!

I die cut some bunting from more leftover book print, stamping the letters and circles for this with Barn Door, then the other letters and circles in black. The letter A was a very old stamp from Hampton Art and I mounted it on a scrap of red card to make it stand out.

The phrenology head and the sentiment are both from Wendy Vecchi's Art Rules set and I added some red embossing to her lips and blue pen to her eye to make them pop. I restamped the flower part of the head and layered that on but felt there was still something missing so I added the half doily, also cut from book print.

I set it aside for a bit and later that day inspiration struck. I had some geek glasses paper lips I had bought for no good reason other than they were quirky, so I adapted them which I think is the perfect finishing touch!

 

I often leave pages aside because I don't feel they are finished, but can't think why, just hoping inspiration will come another day. Do you do that? Or do always complete a page in one sitting?

A Frugal Journey Through January Day 15

WOW, Day 15 on my Frugal Journey, who'd have believed I could blog a different project every day for more than two weeks! Not me that's for sure, but here we are.

Today is all about using up those leftovers from 6x6 pads, you know the ones you fell in love with and just had to have - but now have more than half the paper still in them.

This layout uses five 6x6 sheets of paper plus a scrap to stamp on plus about half an A4 sheet of white vellum. I used an ivory 12x12 sheet as a base and cut four of the sheets of patterned paper to 51/2 inches square, then die cut the fifth sheet into a large label which I cut in half. The papers were from a mix of Prima collections.

I stamped some swirls and the title with Versamark and embossed them with Wow's Vanilla White embossing powder. The year was stamped in Versafine Imperial Purple then the individual numbers were punched out with a 1/2" circle punch. The lace is from May Arts and the mini envelope an old McGill punch. I made the butterfly by stamping the smaller butterfly onto Grungepaper and the larger one onto Clearly For Art, coloured the smaller with Distress Ink, shaped both and sandwiched a Tim Holtz pin between them.Both butterflies are from Wendy Vecchi. I couldn't resist adding a little stamping with a tiny script stamp from Hampton Art that I have had forever.

This layout took me less than an hour to create - once I got the photos the right kind of black and white for the papers, I had to use them as one is the same design as the background curtain in the photo!

I used this layout for a workshop and, as I never make the same thing twice, I changed it around a bit and used entirely different papers, My Mind's Eye this time, and photos in the class.

Of course you could use the same idea on cards or journal page too.

Be Still My Heart - A very Studio 490 week!

 

Oh the excitement when this little delivery arrived on Thursday at Snazzys! Mostly all the new Studio 490 goodness from the wonderful Wendy Vecchi, with the new Art for You stamps and

co-ordinating Bugs & Butterflies Art parts at the top of my shopping list!

 

 

For those of you who are not quite sure what to do with all her lovely goodies Wendy has designed the three different Kits for Art you see in the (bad) photo above. Each include all the Art Parts you need to make the illustrated project, and the Be at Home kit (centre) even has her Blossom Bucket embellishments too. 

 

All of the Studio 490 product range, except for the Blossom Bucket embellishments are in the online store now, just click 'online store' to pop over for a peek, and I am working on some samples for the store which I will share next week.

 

The Headmaster has spent two days shuffling all the stamp ranges around the store to make the new bits fit so I thought you might like a peek, and maybe a drool too - no, not at the Headmaster just at the lovely new stamps etc from....

Tim Holtz - including all the Classic and Blueprint ranges - looking very depleted already, but no worries as more stocks of these are due in next week, .....

 

 

......the new Christmas stamps from Dylusions - we have the stencils and restocks of the ink sprays too plus .....

 

 

 

Hampton Art, which I will try to get into the online store later this week, after the Blossom Bucket embellies, and after the new Christmas Hero Arts, and after the new Chocolate Baroque stamps, and ........ you get the picture lol!
