In the Studio - March 2017

Welcome to the Studio schedule for March. A busy month with lots of new product lines arriving from Tim Holtz, PaperArtsy, Prima, Hero Arts and Dylusions to create with, new techniques with new consumables plus an altered clipboard, a monthly layout workshop, ArtJournal Sunday and nine Stop By & Stamp drop in sessions. You will also see as the evenings are getting lighter the Tuesday and Thursday Stop By & Stamp sessions are extended to 9pm, so more shopping time too, and having checked our show schedule for the first half of the year I can confirm there will be an Art Journal drop in session on the last Sunday of every month.

This month also sees the return of 'Take One Stamp' workshops, which does exactly what it says, and 'Inspired by' workshops which see us take the style and artwork of a designer and put our own twist on it - this month I feature the pretty, delicate and softly coloured designs of Kay Carley for PaperArtsy.

I have also moved the teaching schedule away from the regular Wednesday/Saturday routine which I have kept to for almost 15 years as I figured it was time for a change. What do you think? Does it suit you? Do you wish I would just leave well alone? All opinions sought and mulled over :0)

A little custom workshop exploring outsize floral stamps by Lin Brown for PaperArtsy, which I love using in my Art Journals but here, shrunk down to cardmaking proportions, plus a favourite poppy stamp from Hero Arts both with Distress Inks and an interesting resist technique. Four pretty and stylish cards suitable for many different occasions.

Five different cards using the inspiring new stamps by Kay Carley for PaperArtsy. Pretty colours and delicate blooms give a taste of Spring with greetings to suit many different occasions but perhaps lovely for Mother's Day later this month.

It is a joy to see a really new, and very different product launched which works with all your existing Distress stash multiplying the effects you can create. In this workshop I have combined them with the previously released Dapper range of stamps by Tim Holtz to create five cards with a distinctly masculine feel.

Ultimate Metallic Cards £15/£13.50(if paid at time of booking)

This workshop covers basic stamping and masking to make five clean and simple cards using Tsukineko's Ultimate Metallic inkpads with a fabulous shimmer. Available in twelve beautiful colours in the handy cube size they are really quick to use with easy clean up using water or wipes but leaving a wonderfully rich finish on your cards.

It's back! Following a break over Winter Art Journal Sunday is back on the last Sunday of each month. Just fetch your journal, grab a seat, tea or coffee and journal to your 'art's content. You have the use of all the studio inks, paints, mediums, stamps and other consumables and you can stay as long as you wish!

Layouts in July

Hello again and welcome back. This time I would like to share the results of my July monthly layout workshop with you.

The moment I set eyes on Prima's Garden Fable collection I knew I wanted to scrap this photo of our younger daughter using it.

Monthly Layout Sample - July

I used one sheet of the paper as the base (847210) and layered planner pages and tags cut from the other (847227) to add a cluster of layers. I used both the cling and clear stamps from the collection plus a couple of older stamps from Kaisercraft ( the doily embossed in WOW's Bright White ), Inkadinkado ( the quirky 'adorable' ) and a couple of little Teresa Collins word stamps. I used some little scraps of paper to stamp and fussy cut the tiny pink butterflies and had a layout complete with only two sheets of paper and a tiny scrap of lace.

Here are some of the layouts made in the workshop based around the ideas used in my sample...

Apologies to Lucy, Karen and Ellie whose layouts I forgot to photograph, they were fab too with some clever colour combos!

Next month's workshop is a double layout with some background masking and stamping with clever use of quite basic dies to create trims, ric rac and other embellishments. Again I fell in love with these ivory and black papers from Authentique's Everlasting collection. A perfect match for WOW's Vanilla White embossing powder and appropriate for some photos taken of my grandparents and great-grandparents around 1900.

 

As ever, those attending this workshop will have a free choice of papers to work with the colours and subject of their photos, and it is always interesting to see how different the resulting layouts turn out.

Lovely Layouts

Hello there, I hope our Summer weather is suiting you wherever you are, we have gone from too hot, too, humid and too bright to a thunder storm and too much rain in quick succession so I have some pretty summery layouts for you.

We had a sneaky repeat of our June Layout Workshop today as some of our regular scrappers had missed the original sessions. The technique we were working with was creating a stylised flower from die cut or punched hearts with some simple banners to finish off.

We ended up with lovely, fresh and summery layouts.....

........each with different papers.

This one used a combination of Colour Vibe papers from Simple Stories and a BoBunny paper from their Gift of Love collection. The stamps and Stamp and Cut tabs used here are from Hero Arts.

Again the papers in this layout are from the Colour Vibe collection together with a Prima paper. The stamp and cut set used is the new Planner Clips set by Kelly Purkey for Hero Arts.

Finally, we have a stunning colour combination from Colour Vibe and the brand new Garden Fable collection from Prima. I so love it when so many variations on the original idea develop like this. Brilliant work ladies!

The Garden Fable collection stamps and papers feature on my July Layout sample too, they have such beautiful colours and details.
